My paintings are an act of survival, a visceral drive to reclaim life when everything turns against it. Like many who grew up in Iran, I found my sanctuary on the horizontal planes of Persian rugs—sleeping, playing, and learning to see a three-dimensional world within a flat surface. Even as war sirens shattered the gardens of my childhood, forcing us to abandon everything, those intricate motifs remained an unshakeable refuge.
How do we endure when the world collapses? We turn to what protects us. I piece together the fragments of those enchanting patterns, reconstructing them into tactile, living forms. I stand firmly on the side of life; beauty has brought me back.
